PITCH & PUTT Competition
Last year, BARA initiated a successful Pitch & Putt competition for Active Retirement groups in the Dublin area. A second competition under the auspices of the Eastern Region of FARA was held in the Royal Meath club in Clonee on the 19th May last and 32 groups took part, 128 players in all. The event was again a great success.
Muiris Prenderville chaired the organising committee and Joan Kelly handled the catering; both are members of BARA. Pat Murphy of Castleknock ARA acted as Secretary.
COACHING CLINIC
Blanchardstown ARA also initiated a one-day Pitch & Putt Coaching Clinic and,in co-operation with Fingal Sports Partnership, the Clinic was held in Elmgreen Golf Centre on Friday,April 29. It catered for Over 55's in Fingal. This was a historic first as the Clinic tutors were the PGA Golf Professionals attached to Elmgreen. There was intensive instruction on Putting, Pitching,Chipping and Bunker play. An evaluation of the day indicated a very high level of satisfaction with it. MEMORY MAKERS
Ten members entered for the Fingal County Council 2005 Memory Makers competition and we had a winner in Philo O'Byrne for her painting,"Mayo Memories". Philo was presented with the award at a ceremony in Westmanstown on 5th May. Previous BARA winners included Peggy Dorman (twice), Bill Larby, Maureen Keane, Marie Meehan and Muiris Prenderville(twice).
International Project
John Robinson, Bara Chairperson and Rosalind Horan, Vice-Chaiperson are part of a Fingal team engaged in a series of visits to the UK, France and Poland looking at facilities for older people. BARA entertaind a group from the UK recently; they were impressed with the concept of our Active Retirement movement
