Minutes of the Dublin 15 Environment Group Meeting

Date: Tuesday 27 September

Present: Monica, Valerie, Maria, Maeve, Petrina, Davis

Absent: No one

The main order of events remained the upcoming Composting and Bonsai workshops. An update on the tasks assigned in the previous meeting:

Bonsai (Wednesday 5^{th October, 7pm->8:30pm):}

Materials: Davis to purchase – projected budget €150 : Done and receipts given though he has some small things yet to get, pre-payed.

Poster: Maria to organise: Done

Book Room: Valerie to call them Thursday morning: Done

Article in the Community Voice : Davis already wrote it, Monica to put in CV.: Done

Let other groups know of the event: Monica : Done

Put up notices on community websites: Maeve: Done

Composting (Tuesday 4th October, 10am->11:30am; 7pm->8:30pm):

Materials: Already available: No Action

Poster: Monica has one she will locate: Done

Information Sheets on Composting: Valerie will locate them: Valerie to leave in Library for Maria to collect

Article for Community Voice/Northside People: Petrina will write something, Monica will combine with Davis’s piece.: Done

Book Speaker (Maria Douglas from Fingal co co): Valerie will ask her : Maria is on holidays till October 1st. So we will do it outselves. Monica/Valerie the morning session, Maeve/Maria the evening. In preparation Maeve/Maria will meet on Saturday 1 October at 2pm to ‘practice’ a demo.

Other Business:

· Posters distributed to other members to be hung in local shops etc.

· For the Bonsai workshop Maria will collect Davis at about 6:15, to help carry his stuff

· At the Bonsai workshop we will give away 5 trees (@ €10 each) in a ‘lottery’. All attendees to put their name in a box on arrival. So a box with places to write names is needed.

· Valerie will photocopy some Bonsai styles from a book Davis had to distribute.

· Monica will ask Fergus of the Community Voice if he wishes to attend.

· Valerie distributed copies of the form for Local Agenda 21 funding. Maeve to fill in provisional copy. Due date is October 7th.

· Varerie invited Hanz Veizer (hoticulturist with fingal co co Parks dept) to the meeting, but he couldn’t attend. Also Roderick O’Gorman of the Green Party was looking for an update on the groups progress which Valerie gave him.

· Davis suggested more interaction with other env groups in the fingal area. Monica has a book of all such groups she will bring to the next meeting.

· Petrina suggests we keep our events in line with the seasons, e.g. a halloween theme for October

· Pertina though her work deals a lot on the European side and may write an article for the Community Voice w.r.t this. More of a ‘big picture’.

· Fingal CC are having a Volunteer Recruitment fair on Wednesday 26 October, 10->12:30. It would be good if we could have a stand but due to work commitments we cannot see this happening. If we do, should bring some seeds alone to distribute.

The proposed date for the next meeting is Tuesday 11th of October. Maria/Monica and Valerie will not be able attend. Room 2.
