Minutes of the Dublin 15 Environment Group Meeting Date: Tuesday 15 November Time: 7pm Present: Monica, Maria, Maeve, Petrina, Frédéric Absent: Davis, Valerie
Frédéric from France joined the group and is very welcome. He comes from an Engineering background. The main order of events was the upcoming Energy talk and Eco-Christmas Decorations event. Energy Maria put huge efforts into finding a guest speaker for our proposed date of 29 Nov, but due to a big energy conference happening in Europe that week none were available. Actions Left for the Engergy Event A man involved in Engergy Efficiency said he would give the talk, but cannot do that week. We agreed to defer out event to a date to suit him. Once we have a date of him, Maeve will ask a local supplier of wood pellet stoves if he would be interested in attending. Deferring it to the first week of Decemeber also means we can get a slot in the Community Voice to advertise it, which Maria will write. The SEI (Paul Dykes) have agreed to send us information packs for it to Maria. Advertising is still as agreed in the last meeting: Websites (Maeve) Posters (All – I cannot recall who said they would do this. I will try today, but can’t colour print. I think Monica said she could colour print) Churches (Petrina & Monica) Local Radios (?) Local Papers (Maria/Monica) Local Organisations (Monica) Christmas Some of us will be attending the Organic Centres Christmas event on December 4th. We will buy stuff. On Thursday 8th of December will display this stuff on a stand in the library, probably 6pm-8pm. To raise awareness/the idea of a less commercial christmas. Actions Left for the Christmas Event Attend the Organic Centres event on Dec 4th (Maeve, Petrina, Monica hope to go). Maeve to phone the library to ask if we can have this stand in their foyar.
Any Other Business 1. Fergus of the Community Voice (CV) came to outline the required format/content for articles which can be published in the CV. His main points: Accesssible so that people even vaguely interested would read them Practicle – as in why are they worthwhile Local – they must be about local d15 issues, or have local d15 slant. E.g. Focus on our workshops/brown bins in Hartstown/Local projects etc. 300->400 words He also said we could have a monthly column with no obligation to write a monthly article. The column would have our Logo and a set piece at the end, which could be used to recruit new members. 2. 10->20% of Dublin 15 is estimated to be non-national. It was noted the group could benefit from a higher non-national presense, bringing experiences from their countries. We could put something to this effect in the Community Voice ‘set piece’. 3. Trees. It was noted the destruction of trees in d15 really upsets people. With that in mind we probably should do some type of ‘tree’ thing. The group has planted a tree at the centre, need to get a plaque done.
4. The Hertigage Plan is being launched in Swords. Monica was invited, she will forward details around. 5. We would like to sponsor the landscaping of a roundabout. Monica will ask David Fennell of Fingal Co Co, and/or Aidan Grimes of the Blanchardstown Centre.
6. Website. As noted before, the 7. Petrina advised we are all using potentially hazourdous, or at least untested chemicals on our skins, with super expensive Chanel being the worst offender. The FDA has noted they are unable to ensuse consumer safety w.r.t. personal care. She will email details around. The proposed date for the next meeting is Tuesday 29th of November in the big room downstairs.
