Minutes of the Dublin 15 Environment Group Meeting Date: Tuesday 7th Febuary 2006 Time: 7pm Present: Monica, Maria, Maeve, Petrina, Valerie, Deivis Absent: Frédéric Patrica Kennedy (Trish), Green Schools Coordinator for Fingal, and organizer of the Cleaner Communities Awards attended the meeting. She gave an outline of what the green schools program involves. As we would like to engage more with children, we will try to come up with a workshop which can encourage a ‘love for nature’ in children. Growing stuff etc. We need to decide on an event, possibly run it for adults which Trish could attend to see if it would be suitable for children. Something like the bonsai workshop. National Tree Week (March) Gardening for Wildlife Workshop The date needs to be changed. Will try for 13th March. Maeve to book room. Article is written, Maeve to send to Fergus once date is confirmed, Petrina is to do the poster, Maeve to forward her details. Tolka Valley Renewal (Febuary) Maria and Deivis attended the meeting on this and gave an outline of what had been discussed. The council are keen to start actual work now. On Saturday 11th at 10am they are walking the park, then lunch, then meeting. All are welcome. Maria, Deivis, Maeve, Petrina will try to attend. In conjunction with this Maria, Petrina (and John), Maeve will attend the cherry-tree destruction in Abbotstown on Feb 25th. Also organized by the council, this is to allow native trees to grow, which have been smothered by the cheeries. Monica has sourced a granite stone for our tree in the Blanch Centre. €300 which we agreed to. She will have out moto engraved on it, and then whatever else he can fit. Hanging Backets/Seed Distribution (April) Ray agreed to run this in April and another later if successfull. We want to run another in May as part of Green Fingal week. April – We will organize as per usual events. May – Patricia Kennedy will organise the advertising/put us as part of the program of events for that week/invite entrants from the 2005 Cleaner Communities Awards. Due to Data restrictions, we cannot have the details of entrants ourselves. World Environment Day (June) Valerie (via email) Rang Draoicht Re: 17th / 18th Feb. Not available those days but not allowing fairs as is a fire safety issue. Rang the Library not open the 18th but may be able to accomodate us on the 17th for the foyer. Lillian to get back. (this was not discussed at the meeting) Any Other Business A receipt for envelopes from July cannot be found – Monica will ask the lady who ordered them to get a new receipt or some ‘evidence’ from Viking Frédéric has emailed around a plan for the website. (this was not discussed at the meeting) Maeve suggested we compare the major shops in d15 from an eco perspective. E.g. decide on a shopping list, got to a few shops and get the items based on o o Then write an article on it for the CV. The proposed date for the next meeting is Tuesday 21th of Febuary.
