MOUNTVIEW/BLAKESTOWN COMMUNITY DRUG TEAM CHILDCARE SERVICE
The Drop-In Créche service opened in September 2003. We offer children a safe place where they can be children, play, are happy, a place where they can be stimulated in a positive way and build their feelings of self-worth and self-esteem.
The childcare staff work with an average 22 children and it is expected that this number will continue to grow as the service develops.
For the parents of the children, the service has provided the opportunity for some of them to take up training and education opportunities that would otherwise not have been an option to them. Childcare is an important part of the CDT service as it allows people with children to access the service in the knowledge that their children will be looked after in an appropriate environment while they are using the service.
ADVANTAGES FOR CHILDREN ATTENDING THE CDT
- We provide a safe, happy and homely atmosphere for all children which allows them to learn and grow.
- In our playroom, the children are encouraged at all times to behave in a caring and responsible way. We encourage turn taking and sharing.Teaching them positive behaviour is always reinforced to encourage and build the child's self-esteem.
- In our playroom, we promote the interests and welfare of the children within the project, family and wider community.
- We ensure that good standards of practice and hygiene are followed and that all activities and equipment is safe and suitable.
- We offer the children attending the playroom breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- We would be vigilant for signs of abuse and development delay while working with the children.
- We ensure that our playroom complies with the Childcare Regulations 1996, and all other relevant legislations.
- We believe that each child deserves to be given respect and support while being in theplayroom at the CDT.
ADVANTAGES FOR PARENTS WHO AVAIL OF THE CHILDCARE SERVICE IN THE CDT
- We would liaise with parents on any issues or concerns they may have and actively encourage their involvement in the childcare service.
- Parents are welcome at any time to exchange and gain information and participate in any activities that may interest them with their children.
- We provide a childcare service, which allows a parent the time and space to communicate with their project worker, e.g. courses, therapy, counselling, clinic etc.
AIMS
Our overall aim of the childcare at the CDT is to help parents meet their own needs and the needs of their children and to fulfil their hopes for themselves and their children by:
- Having full time childcare staff on the premises
- To provide a bigger playroom and more space for equipment e.g. art materials, toys, sand and water play etc.
- To provide a warm friendly relaxed environment for parents and children together.
- To provide a safe fun place for children to play, learn and grown happily together.
- To have an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality in which parents and children can feel safe and secure within the childcare of the CDT.
- To provide opportunities for parents to learn.
