Fingal County Council  have shown imagination and initiative in making a WEB Page (www.dublin15.info) available  for information that could be of value to the community. The author of this document, Mr. Richard Metreman, has some skill in the science of measuring items or metrology and with the assistance of Mr. Vincent Cahill in this publication this skill is applied to a golf course. The style is detached and just offers suggestions about how various activities involved in this task might be undertaken. It is therefore not a directive or instruction.  The publication gives a method of obtaining certified measured length in metres which has the following benefits : it is inexpensive, uses sound metrology, is under the control of a club member and yields a simplified card which could be used by both genders by playing the game within the course off different coloured tees.
The author thanks Fingal County Council for this opportunity to present this unusual information. We have many fine golf courses in Fingal and perhaps the information may be of value to them or to golf courses further afield..
