Opening Statement

If one looks at a technical dictionary in a public library the act of measuring is defined  as “ascertainment of extent by comparison with a standard” or a form of words expressing the same definition. This publication puts in place a traceable chain back to an international standard for length (the metre). It would be tedious to have to verify that the equipment was working properly before use by going to an outside standard so it is much more efficient and cost effective for each club to have a Permanent Reference Standard (100 m) and to check the equipment against it prior to use.

Permanent Reference Standard (100m)

A very low traffic area is located which is flat and 100m in length. On this two permanent markers are erected which are 100m apart. The markers are set in position with a new measuring tape. The construction should be considered permanent  so that measuring tapes can be checked on it well into the future. It should be labelled as the Club 100m Reference Standard and interference with it should be forbidden
